Uwang Ahadas

A Yakan musician who found hope through music.

Works

MUSIC OF THE MINDANAO

The music was made with the use of kulintang ensemble that makes you be upright and vibe with it.  In Uwang Ahadas case, only 5 gongs are used for this. The music becomes more cherished because a kulintang is a highly valued instrument considering the fact that the music was meant to advocate peace among youth.

This instrument is like a xylophone but with the image of a bamboo. The stick or the beater that is used to play with it is also made with wood. The metal holding the bamboo above was decorated in a floral way for some gabbang.

Kwintangan Playing

Kulintang was a term used to play various music related that uses a gong as an instrument. Kwintangan is for Yakan tribe that mostly considered a lead instrument for their music tradition. It’s amazing since kwintangan may have the same sizes but can produce different melody, like a singing glass with different volume of water.
